Anyone interested in RC gliding?

Postby nadmasflying on Thu Jun 12, 2008 9:00 pm

Is there anyone interested in getting into rc gliders, Bungee, or electric? There are currently a couple of members in the club who have been flying gliders for a while and from what I see there is a strong following. Some Thermal gliders can also be easy to fly and so any novices could also get involved. Remember we have silent flight on Sundays and gliding would make a fantastic way making use of this day.
I have found a list of gliders that make a ideal platform up at Stanmore
Let me know what you think, it would be nice if we could get a gathering.

Flying a plane is no different from riding a bicycle. It's just a lot harder to put baseball cards in the spokes

Hi

Sounds good. As I have not passed my 'A' would you/somebody be prepared to buddy with me on gliders ?

Hope to be at the site on Saturday so if you are there it would be good to chat.

Gliding is fun, I can always help if you would like to get into this area of flying, it is a different skill as they tend to have less power and just fly different to models such as your trainer( But not in someways harder).
As I am unsure when I can get to the flying field I will not be able to promise to buddy, but if at the field I will always be able to help. If you are thinking of trying out gliding, let me know before hand as I can help with a model and set up.

Light electric gliders are great for relaxing flying on balmy summer days. They are good for learning too as you get lots of stick time and you learn about air and lift and energy management.

However this time of year the sun is low and there is not so much thermal lift. We do however have some very fine slopes in the vicinity:

SW: Beacon Hill
NE: Kingsclere
NNW: Uffington

Slope soaring is lots of fun on a breezy bay. All you need is an EPP foam kit, two servos, a battery and a receiver. You can soar with the the red kites and stay up for hours. Or you can practise your aerobatics at eye level.

Fast electric gliders (hotliners) are great fun too. You can fly high and slow or low and screaming fast. They can fly in almost any weather. Even seasoned club veterans are impressed the first time they see one.

Welcome to The NADMAS forum,
I currently fly (Weather permitting!!!) a hotliner, a liftoff by slimprop. Great flying model which is strong enough to fly in the worst of conditions and nice to fly in thermals on a hot day.

Many years ago I did fly from Kingsclere with a two channel glider but been back, I often see people flying kites up there when I drive past.
